Advice on adjusting to variable income?

submitted
byrss-bot bottopersonalfinance

Over the last year my partner transitioned their career and are working a full commission job. It takes time to develop his business and his income has been sporadic with large numbers of months with no income and occasional large payments ($20k+). I am fortunate to make a good income and can pay most of our expenses and still save a bit but I’m not handling the uncertainty and stress very well. I want to be supportive but I’m in my late 30s and we are thinking about children, I have an aging parent I fear will need my financial help at some point and I feel like I’m buckling under the pressure of it all. I worry about renewing our mortgage in 18 months as well. I’m just looking for any advice, books or resources that could help me navigate this time a bit better. Thank you in advance!
