Summary
Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) was set to expire on Friday. It has now been extended for two more years. The program allows for warrantless intelligence gathering on foreign targets. While its focus is on the US, that includes any exchanges with people stateside. Section 702 was first signed into law in 2008. It allows the U.S. to use data from internet and cell phone providers to track foreign targets. The White House says the president will sign the bill into law. It has been renewed twice already. The bill is expected to be signed into force soon.
