Depth for 9 foot kitchen island?

submitted

Doing a remodel and our kitchen island will be 9ft long (or 9ft wide, whichever way you wanna call it).

Right now I have the finished depth of the island to be 48in, or 4ft, but I’m wondering if this is too deep? Most articles I find say to have the island be 36-42in deep but I never see anything about 48in.

The island will be purely work surface. There is no sink or range on it.

Also, the house isn’t mega huge, but it is going in an open concept home. 48in will fit great, but also happy to gain additional space elsewhere if a less deep island is better.

So for a 9ft island, should I go 48in deep or less? If less, what size should I do?

Thanks!
