I'm 45, recently divorced, and trying to move from a northern Midwest state back to the Treasure Coast area of Florida. I have family in that area and it's the reason I want to move back. Unfortunately, they don't have spare rooms for me to temporarily stay, I'll need to either rent or buy a house and that adds to the budget.
I've been trying to apply for jobs in that area for the past year, but unfortunately it's not proving fruitful with both options of working in office locally in that area or even 100% remote which would allow me to live wherever. I'm in the Information Technology field as a System Administrator.
I'm a bit paranoid about taking the leap of faith without a job lined up since I like playing it safe. Even after the move it may be several months or more before I secure a job in my field again.
The questions:
(1) How much would you save up before you felt safe moving across the country by yourself without a job lined up first? $80k to $100k?
(2) For those that know FL and the Treasure Coast, where along the Treasure Coast would have the largest amount of big companies for an IT guy like me to work at? Merritt Island area? Fort Pierce? Trying to find the best spot around there for the highest chances of employment.
