How urban design in the US is actively hostile to pedestrians

Is there ever any way to fix this?
This is why it is important to vote. You should be trying to vote people into your local governments that want to fix these things.
I guess it really depends where you are then. I really don't see a lot of areas even getting fixes for these things on the ballot.
Vote vote vote! This is how you make your voice heard!
Major construction work but doable. There just has to be political will.
Sounds like something that will never happen or will happen after I'm dead.
Only if the crappy people stay in office
I've made a walk like that and the short time fools you into taking it. It is brutal and the heat drives you ever more mad at the idiotic choices made by the people at city hall to only emphasize the way for cars. There's no reason that park entrance should not have also had a pedestrian entrance right there.
Most parks I've been to have pedestrian walkways flagging the road entrance or at the very least multiple ways to enter on all streets. The problem is that I think this just speaks to the places I've lived that have cared about this type of things and it's very much not the norm. This is insane.
How the hell did you make it through?
Spite. It was stupid and ridiculous but the anger got me through. Having a huge bottle of water was worth it too
That bottle of water is always clutch
