How would you orient the dining table?

Based on this view from the kitchen, how would you orient the dining table in this dining room? To the right is the living room, so the table is fully visible from there as well! Our current table is tiny and is parallel with the counter peninsula, but now I’m wondering if our new, larger table would look better perpendicular to the peninsula? Or if it would be odd having a chair back up to that as opposed to the wall to the left.

The dining room is a square, so the table would fit in either orientation!
