Matrix is my reddit alternative I've been coding from scratch. https://matrix.gvid.tv/
I recently made some improvements the comment CSS.
- Children are more indented.
- There is more space around comments.
- The box-shadow has been reduced to just barely being visible.
- There is more space under the bottom controls.
- The corners are better chopped off.
- Prior I didn't like completely rounded comments so I had left the tops completely square. Now the header is just less rounded and the interface between the comment header and body is even less so.
- I've set up completely different margins for inner comments than outer comments. So now I can margin them separately.
While contrast is up from what it was before, I still feel like contrast is a problem. I've identified the root cause. The problem is we are going from dark, to brighter, to brighter. So the issue is spacing these three so they have enough difference but also avoid extremes. To give myself more space I just brightened up the text further to #ebebeb. Trying white it certainly is a style. I could see some people preferring pure white and some just a titch off. Pure white might make for a good theme if anyone wants to make one. Themes are very easy to make so it should be relatively easy for people who want pure white to get it.
