Trying to gauge my sanity. If an employer sent a benefits breakdown with a job offer that advertised as "Rewards of Benefits Provided" they would be paying "6.2% of taxable wages on behalf of the employee" for Social Security and "1.45% on behalf of the employee for Medicare", how would you interpret that?
We (fiance and I) interpreted that as the employer would be covering the employee's portion of Medicare and SS tax as a BENEFIT, in addition to covering their portion as part of their legal responsibility.
It turns out, the employer was just advertising that they are covering their portion, and won't be covering the employee's portion. How can they ethically advertise that as a benefit? They even provided a sample calculation of the value of the benefits, including the 6.2% and 1.45%.
