I hired a designer (LA) @ $250 an hour to consult about colors for the exterior of my house. We spent 2 hours on zoom, used the colors and all went well. Then I wanted to get her input on hardwood floor colors and backsplash for kitchen cabinets that we picked out ourselves. She said her rate was now $300 an hour and it would take about 5 hours to source the hardwood floor materials and bring them to our house to see in person. I received a bill for 6.5 hours, and when I asked her where I could buy the floors and tiles she was recommending, she said she couldn't give me the information-that I would need to go through her and she has a markup. So, I've now spent $2000 and am in the same position as when I started unless I want to spend more money to get the name of the floor she is recommending. All of this agreement was verbal, btw. AITA for feeling like I got ripped off? I work freelance myself, so I'm very sympathetic to people having professional knowledge, but this just seems extreme. The quote she gave me per square foot for the floor is almost double what the going rate is. Thank you in advance for your opinions!
