Is there a way to use an alternative 401k if I don't want to use the provider that my employer offers?

  • My company is using a 401k provider that I don't really care to use, and I'm wondering if there's a way to use an alternative one?
  • My employer does not match contributions, so there's not much incentive from that standpoint.
  • I already have a couple of retirement accounts with Vanguard, and would like to use them somehow, if at all possible.
  • I could contribute to a Roth, but the annual limits are a lot smaller, and I'd like to capture that full amount.
  • I think I can just roll over the company-sponsored 401k whenever I leave, but was wondering if there's another way.
