My mom died last year in Wyoming. Her death was sudden and tragic. She had a massive heart attack and the rural community my dad lives in life flighted her to a larger hospital where she was DOA. My dad sent all the doctors her death certificate as requested by the offices to settle her debt. I do not know if he received confirmation from the offices that debt was settled. Fast forward to now, he is receiving letters and phone calls trying to collect her medical debt which is over 500,000.00 total. I told him not to answer or acknowledge it because I think her debt died with her.
There is no estate, she had no assets or personal accounts or life insurance. But Wyoming is a joint property state. I don't know what to tell my dad or how to help him.
