Hey so this is a throwaway account, because this is kind of embarrassing. So I have a credit card through Merrick Bank with a credit limit of $2400. Originally the limit was $1000, but it would double if I spent that limit before the first 6 months of me receiving it. Anyway I end up spending the limit, and doubling it, and have been paying it off on my own time. While setting up my account, I forgot to switch to paperless, so Merrick would mail in my Bank Statements every month.
Well one day, my bank statement got mailed, and my dad decided to OPEN IT UP and realized how much debt I had to pay. After going back and forth with him, he offered to pay off the whole balance which was $987 at the time, and I would pay him back every month or until its completely paid off (to avoid interest). He wrote a check and had it mailed, and that was that. Afterwards I switched to paperless so my future statements would be emailed to me, however my dad STILL knows about my credit history. I still used the card afterwards and had a $300 balance and he KNEW about it. I called Merrick Bank and asked if anyone had accessed my account other than me, but they said the only person who had access was me.
How would he know about my credit history even though I changed my statements to paperless, changed my login info, pin#, etc? When he wrote and mailed the check via Bank of America. Would it have something to do with that? I just want to know how to keep this private from my family members again.
EDIT: so reading some of the comments, its likely he used a free credit report site which if thats the case there's really not much I could do. unless theres another reason. This is bumming me out
