Hey Everyone! Have a situation that I don’t even know how to start to sort. I’ll try to keep it simple. My mother passed away last week unexpectedly. Her and my father had 3 cars. One is a truck that my dad is keeping. The other is. Toyota RAV4, they pay ~500 a month for, owe ~26,000 total. Issue is that there was a recall on an engine part(?) and every place they take it to is offering 8,000 less than they owe on it because there is no fix for the recall. This car is in my father and mother’s name. Last car is an Acura- pay 440 a month, owe about 22,000 still. This was my mother’s primary car and was only in her name. They had tried to trade it in before and were offered ~4,000 less than they owe.
I just need to get rid of them and break as even as possible. My dad is at the point where he said he isn’t making payments and they can repo them for all he cares.
Any advice? What would my steps be? I don’t want him to tank his credit for no reason.
