Summary
The series has enough unique qualities to not be considered a derivative of other magic-themed anime. The anticipated Wistoria anime adaptation depicts the protagonist, Will Serfort, who aspires to ascend the Mercedes Caulis and become a Magia Vander.
It's easy to see comparable elements even in the first few episodes of Wistoria: Wand and Sword, which makes it easy to compare to Harry Potter. This could arguably be seen as the series being an appropriate replacement, especially as the latter franchise has seen better days. Wistia has enough unique qualities not to be declared a derivative of the series.
One misses the forest for the trees by writing Wistoria off as derivative, as its anime has made just as strong a first impression, if not better. Still, with Wistia: Wand and Sword sitting in the top ten seasonal anime for Summer 2024 on MyAnimeList, enough fans don't mind the comparison.
