Hey everyone! Hoping someone can shed some light on this for me.
The company I work for has 3 locations in Los Angeles, each set up as an individual business. In September I went from working full time at one location to being split between the other 2 locations, as the first location went out of business. So I had 3 different W4s. I did not set up any extra tax withholdings because my income was so low, just the standard. Now when doing taxes and looking at my W2s, I’m wondering if something went wrong my paychecks with these 2 new locations I was at.
At one location, I earned $8023.95 total, and they took out $0.66 in federal taxes. At the other location, I earned $2401.50, and they did not take out any federal taxes at all. Everything looked fine for the W2 for the first location I was at until September. My husband made about $48k total for the year and paid $2.3k in federal taxes. In total, we made $2k less than in ‘22 but Free Tax USA is saying we now owe just over $3k in taxes for ‘23.
I’m trying to get this all sorted out, but I’m just wondering if it’s accurate that my company did not need to take out any federal taxes from my paychecks? I want to make sure this is correct before I figure out my next steps.
TIA!
