Context: I quit my job October 2023 and decided to take a sabbatical for personal reasons.
- I'm not sure if I will get a new job in 2024.
- If I don't work, my income will be low (~$20k from interest and dividends).
- If I get a job, it might be as high as ~$100k depending on start date.
- My 2023 income was over $150k.
- Because I quit my job voluntarily, I am not qualified for unemployment.
Situation: I don't want to miss out on potential programs that would help me save money, such as:
- For general expenses - PGE discounts, health insurance, etc.
- For purchasing car - Federal EV rebate ($7.5k), California EV rebate ($4k) [link](https://www.greencars.com/resources/ev-incentives)
To participate in these programs, it seems like I need to show my last year's tax return (2022 or 2023) but that would show my income being too high.
Questions
- Any general advice on how to participate in these programs? Has anybody been in this situation where they have virtually no current income but would like to participate in these for the current year?
- Is there a way for me to prove my current income being low? I tried researching for a long time and can't find any answers. Or do I have to wait for 2024 to close in order to prove lower income once 2025 comes?
- What else am I not thinking about?
