Summary

At least two deaths have been reported in Texas amid the storm. Storm surge and tropical storm warnings were in effect for a 255-mile stretch of southeastern coastal Texas. Around 3,400 flights were canceled or delayed Monday. Beryl made landfall early Monday morning as a hurricane.

Beryl caused flight disruptions Sunday night that had become worse by Monday. United Airlines had the greatest number of cancellations on Monday morning, with 406. Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, who is serving as the state's acting governor, issued a preemptive disaster declaration.

Tulum, Mexico, plunged into darkness when the storm knocked out power as it came ashore. Three people have been reported dead in Grenada, three in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Beryl was the earliest storm to develop into a Category 5 hurricane in the Atlantic.

Beryl is the third Category 3 hurricane ever recorded in the Atlantic in June, following Audrey in 1957 and Alma in 1966. Beryl is also the farthest east a hurricane has formed in June and one of only two to do so east of the Caribbean.

Psychological. Convincing yourself it's ok. Not the biggest deal if you have to live in a safe area, but that's still a big gamble.
