Hello! I am currently in school for interior design (I already have a bachelors and masters in an unrelated field). I have had a lifelong passion for interior design and spent 6+ years working in merchandising for a major retail fashion brand (designing store layouts, displays, windows etc.) so I have some adjacent experience. I am in a year long program to get my degree in ID and then have to work for ~a year to be able to sit for the NCIDQ exam.
My question: I would love to do something to make money while I’m in school and build my portfolio at the same time. I know I can’t market myself as an ID until I pass the exam and get state licensed, but I would love to do decorating, staging, e-design etc in the meantime just to make some money - has anyone been in this boat/transition phase or have any suggestions? I’m so excited to begin this career change now that I’m done having kids and am starting a new phase of life. Thank you!
