Why Copilot is Making Programmers Worse at Programming

Summary

Over-the-top software can be used to create complex code. It can also be used as a tool to create a more efficient way of working.

A lack of ownership can make developers complacent, thinking, “The AI generated it, so it must be correct” But AI-generated code isn’t immune to errors, bugs, or even security vulnerabilities.

Programming is as much about creativity as it is about logic. By offering suggestions that are often based on existing code or patterns, AI-driven tools can limit a developer’s exploration of novel approaches or innovative solutions.

If you as the developer do not understand the code, do not. understand how you got to where you are, do. not understand how to solve the problem yourself. Without the foundational knowledge, developers can make mistakes that are costly in both time and money.
