It's better than stack overflow because you can have a conversation if you need help instead of having a long comment thread. It's better than IRC because the feed exists even when you're not online, without you having to create an inbox bot. It's better than discord because discord is a ball. And it's better than language-specific forums because sometimes you just have a general question that isn't framework/lang specific. yes, we are implementing new features and this will be one of the priorities
Just curious about the goal of the site: is it meant to eventually become an alternative to StackOverflow or more of a general programming forum?
It's actually going to be an alternative to hacker news (because we have the Trends feature where we can aggregate news), an alternative to discord (because we have chat rooms) and an alternative to StackOveflow because we can post some content and follow people participating in it in the comments and votes.
